BMI’s country vanguard ruled the 47th Academy of Country Music Awards, taking home a jaw-dropping 89% of the year’s trophies. The wins reflect the unparalleled strength of BMI’s country repertoire, home to the genre’s biggest crossover stars, groundbreaking songwriters and icons. Taylor Swift earned her second consecutive Entertainer of the Year title. She is the youngest woman ever to win the top prize, which is now determined by fan voting. Miranda Lambert scored two record-breaking wins: her third consecutive Female Vocalist of the Year trophy as well as her third consecutive Album of the Year win for Four the Record, the second of which makes her the only woman in history to ever claim the honor three albums in a row.
“Crazy Girl” earned Song of the Year honors for its all-BMI team, songwriters Liz Rose and Lee Brice, and recording artists the Eli Young Band. Jason Aldean also enjoyed a big night, garnering two awards for “Don’t You Wanna Stay,” which claimed Single Record and Vocal Event of the Year. Ceremony host Blake Shelton charmed the crowd and took home his first-ever ACM Male Vocalist of the Year crown. Lady Antebellum clinched Vocal Group of the Year – their third consecutive win in the category – while breakout pair Thompson Square claimed their very first ACM Award for Vocal Duo of the Year. Songwriter of the Year went to frequent chart-topper Dallas Davidson, while Toby Keith scored Video of the Year for fan favorite “Red Solo Cup.” |
